We are very pleased to announce that BELS Malta has achieved Green Standard Schools accreditation, joining their sister school BELS Gozo, which became a member of our association last year.
Based in the seaside town of St Paul's Bay, BELS Malta runs year-round adult courses and seasonal young learner programmes. They have implemented a zero-waste policy and have embedded environmental sustainability into their curriculum, empowering students with an understanding of global challenges and initiatives.
“Learners and agents alike have begun to ask about our efforts to limit our eco-footprint, so this too is being considered with every decision we take,” says Rebecca Bonnici, CEO.
Environmental impact is also central to the development of the school's new building project, which will include solar panels, modern climate control technology and rainwater harvesting.
Together with BELS Gozo, the school has also undertaken a number of clean-up events saying, "we believe that by protecting our natural surroundings, we’re creating a better and more sustainable future for everyone… We believe in fostering a deep appreciation for nature, ensuring that our students understand the importance of sustainable practices and environmental stewardship."
Inspired by local Maltese environmental activists, the BELS team describe "preserving the breathtaking environment of Malta and Gozo" as an issue that is close to their hearts, and highlight the power of collective efforts to safeguard the environment for present and future generations to enjoy.
BELS English schools in Malta and Gozo are award winning schools, accredited by FELTOM and Eaquals as well as Green Standard Schools. They are also members of ALTO.
