Back to nature

Rewilding, or re-wilding is the term used to describe conservation efforts that aim to restore and protect areas of wilderness so that natural processes can take over from human intervention. Protecting or reintroducing certain species of plant or animal is often a necessary component of the rewilding process, as is finding ways to connect rewilded areas.

Port Regis school in Dorset, in the south of England, has not only rewilded sections of its own grounds (see photo) but has also contributed to the rewilding of two local primary schools.

GSS member English Country Schools which runs its summer course programme in Port Regis, has worked closely with the Port Regis team to help them develop their environmental practices, with evident success. We wish both institutions continuing success with all their environmental initiatives in the future.
